How Long Should Treatment For Bacterial Throat Infection Be Continued?
Question: Hello Doctor
Recently, I had a bacterial infection of throat that became bad and infected my ear and eyes. Was on antibiotics for 5 days combined with expectorants and anti allergens. Its been a week since the medicines have stopped but the cough persist with phlegm. No difficulties with breathing but wanted to visit the doctor again. Is it advisable to continue with antibiotics if suggested?

By your description it looks like you have had a complicated upper respiratory tract infection.
In any kind of upper respiratory tract infection cough is usually the last symptom to go .
I would recommend you to continue the same antibiotic for 2 more days and stop.
Meanwhile take steam inhalation around 3 to 4 times a day ,continue the expectorant till you get phlegm, once it stops discontinue the expectorant.
After phlegm stops cough suppressant can be given .
