How Long The Healing Period Take Post FESS Surgery?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Dec 2014
Question: I had fess surgery Sept 12. to remove nasal polpys and severe infection. The cultures showed pseudomenas (sic) and other bacteria. Doctor says all has been cleared. All sinuses were blocked, but no longer. I feel so much better, BUT after 3 quick follow up visits he said I was cured. But now even today after using saline spray large ugly looking scabs come out when I blow my nose... awful greenish yellow. And I constantly have to clear throat with productive small yellowish clots. Is this normal time frame. Am I rushing things. I feel it would be wise to culture some of the scabs, tissues, etc from my nose and throat to see if all bacteria are gone. The pseudenomas scare me. But ENT seems reluctant, says everything is cleared. Before the fess surgery, the ENT tried two courses of antibiotics, but they were not successful.

I have never had a sinus problem before in my life much less polyps and had no idea such could make you feel so bad. Never felt worse in my life. The surgery at least let me get back to how I felt before the infection. But the scabs, etc just keep coming.

Brief Answer:
Atrophic Rhinitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. The immediate healing period after FESS is 4-6 weeks. Internal healing and changes may take 4-6 months. Even by this XXXXXXX you should have recovered completely by know.

2. You seem to have developed Atrophic Rhinitis and biofilm formation.

3. Yes, it is wise to get cultures (to rule out biofilm), Nasal endoscopy and a repeat scan.

4. Upload the results of the investigations for further treatment options.

If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
