How Long The Pain And Nausea After Sigmoidectomy Takes To Reduce?
Question: Hello Dr.,
I had a sigmoidectomy because of severe diviticulitus which had deseased the sigmoid colon. they removed a piece of the colon because of this. also it was atached to the bowel wall which they moved the colon away from it! I am constantly nauseas each day some days the pain is not so bad, others it can be painful! I was just wondering if you could tell me how long the time of recuperation is for this operation!

Hi, thanks for follow up query.
Usually after sigmoidectomy procedure, in uncomplicated case, pain reduces with in 3 weeks, but pain can be controllable with medications to tolerable level in 2 or 3 days after surgery. After any surgery Complete healing requires minimum 2 months and 6 months to regain strength in operated wound.
Immediately after surgery nausea will be there due to anaesthesia given during surgery or from high doses of pain killer medication. Once we reduce dose of medication vomiting sensation relieves.
