Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome back on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would explain as follows:

1- the loss of potassium during physical activity depends of the amount of sweat that your body produces. The amount of sweat produced depends on individual features. You can see that there are persons who sweat more easily and heavily than others.

Anyway, in one study where it was studied the mean loss of potassium in sweat after 1 hour of physical exertion, by measuring the total amount of sweat and its potassium concentration, it was concluded that you loose on average 248 mg of potassium in one hour of physical exertion.

2- Your body, at your age needs at least 4700mg of potassium per day in order to maintain its plasma normal levels. When you have increased sweating you may need much more (even the double of this dose).

Anyway, you can not measure the amount of potassium in every food you take.

The levels of potassium measured on your body are withing the normal ranges. You may need just a slight increase in food reach with potassium (banana, beans, mushrooms, plumes, etc.).

I would also recommend avoiding straining physical activity, especially on hot weather, because it can cause damage to your body.

A good hydration with plenty of fluids and juices (which contain potassium too) would be really helpful to have a healthy body.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

I remain at your disposal if you have further questions!

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri

Detailed Answer:
Hello again!

Yes, staying in hot weather increases sweating.

You may need to take supplements of potassium up to 7000-8000 mg in order to compensate the amount lost with sweat and other body fluids.

Anyway, as we can not calculate this exactly with a mathematical formula, I would recommend a close monitor of your potassium levels (every 2 days) after increasing the amount of supplements containing potassium, in order to rule out possible hypernatremia (increased levels of potassium above the normal ranges) which is not a good thing for your body too.

Hope to have been helpful!

Feel free to ask me again if you have any other questions!

Greetings!

Can I also lose potassium all day just being exposed to 110-117 degrees ferinheight? Las Vegas desert weather.

One more question. Sorry about all these questions.

If my postasiam is 3.8 how much can it drop in one day from one hour of sweating assuming I get 3500 mugs of potassium.

Can it drop to 3.2 from that?

I will start eating more.

Hello again!

Yes, if you calculate the amount of potassium lost with sweat within one hours and study its decrease in your circulating plasma, it is true that an increased sweating for an hour can drop potassium plasma levels from 3.8 to 3.2.

So, I would recommend increasing potassium supplements in your diet.

Hope to have clarified some of your uncertainties!

Wishing good health,
