Question: How safe is onglyza for type 2 diabetes?
Brief Answer:
Saxagliptin is very well tested and safe.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
Noted your concern.
Tab Onglyza contains Saxagliptin.
It is a DPP4 (Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4) inhibitor.
It helps in decreasing insulin resistance and also causes glucose dependent insulin release. (Insulin release from pancreas only when blood glucose levels are above target.)
Hence very rarely cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used alone or with metformin.
No major side effects noted with its use.
Some case reports suggest increased admission for heart failure.
In the presence of normal heart & kidney function it is absolutely safe medicine.
Hope this helps you.
