How Safe Is Knee Resurfacing?

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Mar 2015
Question: My mother is suffering from Knee pain (Arhtritis) since 10 years. The pain is not so severe that hampers her day to day activity. But occasionally the pain is more.

Recently I heard of a new surgical procedure called Knee resurfacing. Got to know that this is less damaging to the bone and the recovery period is better than total knee replacement.

I want to know how long this will lost, and any disadvantages with this new procedure.
Please help

Brief Answer:
eventually undergo further surgery.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

You heard correctly. In this procedure surgeon will replace only the part of knee that is damaged or arthritic.

Longevity depends upon progression of arthritis to other compartment. Disadvantage - possibility that she will have to eventually undergo further surgery if arthritis develops in the part of the knee that are not replaced.

Hope this helps you.

Warm regards.
