Brief Answer:
Should not be stopped abruptly.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Friend.
Hi , I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
Aripiprazole should be discontinued gradually, with careful consideration from the prescribing doctor, to avoid
withdrawal symptoms or relapse.
Withdrawal symptoms like nausea,
lightheadedness, diaphoresis, dyskinesia, tachycardia,
rhabdomyolysis,
nervousness, dizziness, headache, excessive non-stop crying, and anxiety can occur.
So, it is advised to gradually stop the drug under the guidance of your doctor.
In my clinical practise, i prefer to simply reduce the dose to half for next 2 weeks, and further half over next 2 weeks and then i stop the drug provided my patient has no problem and also if he/she is not relapsing.
However, in your case you are taking it since 5 weeks only, so withdrawal symptoms are less likely, still chances of relapse are high with abrupt withdrawal, so i suggest you to withdraw it gradually under guidance of your doctor.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any query you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
Dr Anshul Varshney , MD
