It is a bacterial skin infection. I suggest an oral antibiotic e.g Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid combination like Augmentin syp(228.5mg/5ml). For a 5 year old child I would suggest 1tsf, thrice daily for a week. In addition I suggest you to apply a topical antibiotic e.g Mupirocin 2 %cream (T Bact Cream), twice daily. These are prescription products and I advice you to talk to your local practitioner for a prescription of the same.
