How Should Constant Mucus In My Throat And Productive Cough After Eating Be Treated?
most commonly related to the respiratory tract
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Mucus in the throat can be due to different possible causes but most commonly it is due to post nasal drip secondary to an acute infection or allergies.
Mucus is normally present in the respiratory tract or oral passages (mouth, throat, esophagus, stomach, intestines) but some conditions can increase the amount. Most commonly ,however, it is related to the respiratory tract (nose, sinuses, throat etc)
Since the mucus has been present for a long period of time, then an infection is not likely.
Because the second most common reason for mucus is an allergic reaction to substance ( can be dust, pollen, food, drink, animal dander, medication etc), this is normally addressed.
Avoiding the source if possible is the main treatment
Using a topical steroid nasal spray (eg nasonex, flonase, rhinocort) along with anti histamine/decongestant combination (zyrtec d, allegra d, claritine d, benadryl d)
Decongestants are used for mucus in the throat, even if the person is not congested nasally.
