How Soon Are Sexually Transmitted Diseases Detected After Exposure?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Oct 2014
Question: Hello I am a 30 year old male and recieved unprotected oral sex for 10 minutes and gave unprotected vaginal for 2 minutes on July 24 and tested negative on September 12 (50 days) for gohnorea, chlamydia, herpes 1&2, syphilis, hiv, hepatitis a,b,c. I also got tested on August 16 for trichmonasas which also came back negative. One of my concerns is that some of these test may not be conclusive until 12 weeks. How soon can these stds be detected. Before these test I convinced myself that i had symptoms of each one and they felt real but I hadn't had any discharge, bumps, or ulcers since the possible exposure. The female is around 45 unknown married with children. Now I am starting to do the same thing after more online research because of the possibility of inconclusive test. I feel like I could have lymphnode pain in the groin but I really don't feel any swelling. I am healthy, active, take vitamins everyday so I feel my immune system is at the top of its game.

Brief Answer:
I give you full assurance of your clear status.

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome again to the forum and tanks a lot for taking pains in sending all the important and relevant reports.

After analyzing each and every report and correlating with your time period of exposure let me first and foremost reassure you that you are free form all types of sexually transmitted infections.

Additionally there is no need to go for any further testing for any sort of STDs. SO let you relax your mind from all sort of worries.

Let me explain you the scientific and medical reasons for my firm declaration:

Your unprotected exposure was on July 24th and the tests were done at various intervals of time.

For Chlamydia trachomatis & Neisseria gonorrhoeae on 12- 8-2014 : it means around 18 days of exposure. These manifest within 2 weeks of period in most of the cases so if were positive then must have had shown in the blood by 18th day of exposure.

Trich. vaginalis on      20- 8- 2014 : means 26 days of exposure and as above it manifests within 2 weeks in blood so is very mush conclusive.

Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, HSV 1 and 2-Specific Ab, Hep A, B & C Virus Ab along with HIV 1/O/2 on 12-9-2014 : it means around 48 days of exposure. On one side it further confirms your negative status for Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and on the other side negative status for hepatitis A, B and C.

For HSV -it manifests within a week period so is also a conclusive result.

For HIV antibody test negative at 48 days is encouraging but not conclusive. IN that case we do RNA PCR. This RNA PCR qualitative test is conclusive any time after 15 days period.

In yourself HIV-1 RNA Qualitative test was done on 2-9-2014 meaning 38th day since exposure which is way beyond 15 days cutoff so is most conclusive to declare your clear status from HIV too.

I hope I am able to provide you the best scientific and medical explanation of your test results which shows your total clear status.

Internet is flooded with vast knowledge and experiences where the scientific and medical authenticity is difficult to analyze. SO just don't try to search anything on internet as myself being an expert give you full assurance of your clear status.

Just relax and enjoy your day. Most important rule is to always practice safer sex with use of condoms.

"Best wishes of healthy life"

Thanks for your reply doc but I am still a bit confused on the HSV you mentioned will manifest within a week. The particular test that I took measures for the antibodies that fight the HSV. I am under the impression that HSV does not start producing noticable antibodies until roughly the fourth week and is conclusive at week 12. So I took my test just past the 7th week mark which I understand that 80-85% of people will show positive if they are in fact positive. Typically people with good immune response will show around this time of my test. So I am just a bit confused on this matter. Thanks again for the help.

Brief Answer:
Negative at 7 weeks is excellent indicator

Detailed Answer:
Hello young buddy,

Welcome again to the forum. I can understand your concern and therfore just understand a simple fact:

In herpes if a person is infected then can get manifestation as early as within a week period. That means in case of definitive infection 7 days see sufficient to cause infection but it may get extended to up to 4 weeks to very rarely up to 8 weeks too.

Once the clinical manifestation is present means appearance of antibodies simultaneously. So if you have not had any clinical manifestation within 7 days is good indicator and if not up to 4 weeks then very good indicator. In my clinical practice I have not seen any case of exposure after 7 or 8 weeks so I consider this limit as good as negative which can further be confirmed by antibody tests.

So in your case also I am very confident that you are free from have.

I hope these informations will relax your mind. I will be glad to answer any further queries.

With regards,

Dr Sanjay Kanodia
