Detailed Answer:
Hi friend
Welcome to Health Care Magic
For an accurate reading, blood samples for a triglyceride test ought to have been taken after a 12-to 14 hour period of not eating or drinking alcohol. Alcohol, diet, time of day and recent exercise will affect the values
Very high is 500 or higher is very high! / 200 – 499 = high / Borderline-high is 150 to 199 / Normal is less than 150
Obesity / Poorly controlled diabetes / thyroid deficiency / alcohol / over eating / Kidney disease / drugs like Beta-blockers, diuretics, Oestrogen or contra-ceptive pills, steroids and so on… It can be inherited (family).
Triglycerides in the very high range here generally will require medications, to prevent other medical problems and cannot be controlled by lifestyle modifications alone. There are some options, drugs of the class fibrates are the first choice. Others may be added later on follow up
The treating doctor will give appropriate prescription..
Diet and lifestyle changes are the corner stones of treatment. Reduce weight / Stop smoking / Do Exercise / Reduce fats and sugars in diet/ Avoid alcohol
HDL is good cholesterol – higher, the better. LDL is bad cholesterol – lower, the better.
In the absence of any other risk factor 100 is ideal for LDL-C. In the presence of other diseases (especially Diabetes and/or established heart disease), 70 should be the aim. Here it is 139
Do regular EXERCISE – say walking or jogging - 30 minutes a day / at least 5 days in a week. Isometric exercise (like bull worker) is bad.
Healthy FOOD is a must. Avoid saturated fats – coconut oil, palm oil, butter, ghee, full cream milk...Avoid junk foods in particular – French fries have palm oil / Pizza has cheese / XXXXXXX sweets are made in ghee.../ Change to Poly-un-saturated oil – like sun flower oil. / Include Mono-un-saturated oil – Olive oil.
REPEAT THE TEST IN 2 MONTHS and review.
Good luck
God bless you
