Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.
I wasn't laughting vut i was smiling reading your question and it's so beautiful that you want to change it for your wife although I am sure she wont be having real problems with that cosmatic kind of a thing.
First thing first you asked will your skin go back to normal colour ? yes it will, though it may take 5..6 months to do that but it's understandable as these marks are 20 years old.
Now there is no medical thing i can suggest you but I can let you know about some psychological tricks we use to get off some habit.So here is what can be done.
Gradually going away from you habit is what you are going to do, it wont be healthy to make a sudden change so you can take two months to gradually leave it.Here is what you do.
1) Make a steong resolve that you will leave it gradually.
2) Make a stretagy and do one thing at a time.
3) You used to take two mugs of coffee to the rest room make it one now.
4) Takenhalf the news paper in and leave the rest outside.
5) Have rest of the coffee on the breakfast table or living room with remaining o news paper.
6) You can add another habit to compensate and that can be watching morning TV show when you will have a favourite morning show it will make you reach the Tv in time(go to the rest room before that show).
7) Some people who are really want to make it a deal get a squat toilet installed in their homes, it doesnt touch your glutes and it isn't that comfy so you will always be thinking to just finish what you need to do and have tea and paper in the living room.
8) You can devise stretagy sitting with your wife and discussing what to do, according to your own circumstances and knowing what will help you more.
9) You cannout an alarm of 1.5 hour in start making it 1 hour and then 30 minutes gradually and making sure when alarm goes of you don't press a snooze.
10) Keep massaging the bruise along with that and you will see great results.
11) Also get a super soft cution covering your toilet seat as you gradually get rid of the habit this will help too.If you arent going for squat toilet.
Stay blessed you can do it in a couple of month without making yourself uncomfortable.
