How To Comprehend HSV2 Tests Results?
Question: Hi, doctor told me im positive Hsv-2 with a 1.58 value.Under the value say the hsv2 was repeated at Focus Diagnostice and the result was NOT POSITIVE (the index value was 1.10)thus, the inhibition study result could not be determined. This assay is intented only for samples giving a positive index in the Herpeselect HSV-2 type specific screenig ELISA. A positive inhibition study interpretation confir the POSITIVE results, whereas a NEGATIVE inhibition screenig index was falsely positive. My question is the result is negative o positive? Dr didnt mention this info to me!! I dont understand!
Brief Answer:
indeterminate
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your query.
I understand your concern about the results. Since second test result showed that it is a false positive, your result is indeterminate. It is neither positive nor negative.
In short result is inconclusive. It cannot be said that you are positive for HSV2. If you have any symptoms, they will be treated symptomatically. And there is no need to go for another test or any need to worry.
Hope I have answered you. You can close the discussion and rate the answer, if you don't have further query.

Ok, thank you so much!! I have another question! I have same partner since 1 year and 8 monts ago! Do i need to tell him to test too? IF im positive can I pass the virus to him? Or it is too late and at this point it is for sure that he has it too? Last year this test was negative for me and we had 8 months of relationshipat the time of the test!
Brief Answer:
he should go for test
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes, you should tell him to go for test too. Since your test results are indeterminate, you should have passed virus to him.
It can't be said that he will be negative or positive at present. Only the test result can confirm it. HSV is highly contagious and very readily pass to partner through sexual contact.

H, thank you,
Ok, one more question, what could be the reason that I was negative for this test last year two times and now it could be positive? At time of test we had long time together (8 months) May be he passed to me? But if thats the caseThe test shoul have been positive for me at that moment? Rigth? we are a monogamous couple. It is posibble that the virus hides? Or what could be the reason for the test to be negative last year?
Thank you,

Brief Answer:
8 months is long period
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow up.
As per your test results, it is possible that both of you were free of infection at the time of last year tests. There is high possibility that either of you got infected within last 8 months. He might have passed you infection or vice versa. It cant be said who got infected first.
Yes it is possible that virus was in dormant stage or there may have minimal viral load to produce antibodies.

Yes , it is a very common virus resulting in sexually transmitted disease known as genital herpes. It is a self limiting disease and it may require antiviral therapy to reduce the shedding of virus and prevent recurrence.
