How To Confirm Success Of Abortion After Medical Termination Of Pregnancy?

Question: Hi,

My friend got medical termination of pregnancy on 7 week under medical supervision.
She was asked to take mifipristone and misoprostol tablets complete Unwanted Kit.
she started with mifipristone on Sunday and had heavy bleeding on Tuesday morning. then same day Doctor told her to take misoprostol 2 tablets at a time 2wice orally as due to bleeding vaginal is not possible.
On Wednesday she is asked to take cytolog 200mg 2 tablets at in morning and 2 at night.
She is still bleeding.

How can it be confirmed if the abortion is successful.When should she perform Ultrasound.
What if it is not complete.

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
You should go for ultrasonography after 10 days of taking abortion pills to see whether abortion is completed or not.
Ultrasonography is the only way by which one can confirm that there is any retained product of conception or not.

If abortion is not completed, you should go for suction and curretage( surgical method of abortion)
