Brief Answer:
Try not to worry...

Detailed Answer:
Hi Dear
Welcome to the HCM

Such symptoms are observed in kids, on occasion.

Normally it appears to be a quite serious manifestation , at first. After some time though, the behaviour gradually disappears without any specific treatment.

Rehabilitation / Investigation into the behavior is is only necessary when the child CANNOT be distracted from the offending behavior by other activities. If the child seems obsessed to the exclusion of all other playtime activities.. then it may be time to take her to a pediatrician for a checkup and then eventually, possibly a child psychologist. The pediatrician would be the one to rule out any organic causes for the behavior.

But i must stress, even though it seems odd from an adult point of view, these behaviors are seen in many children and they seem to fade with age. Hormonal changes in a growing child can be sudden and disconcerting, don't worry about each phase unless it interferes with her overall development.

Please do not panic. Leave the child as she is. For now, I would suggest you try and distract her with some other social play / stimulation when you see her beginning the habit.

Hope the query is answered. Please feel free for further clarification.
