Brief Answer: simplest test available is a tumor marker CA19-9 Detailed Answer: Hi Mrs XXXXXXX I can understand your agony. Here is my answer. Cancer of pancreas is mainly seen in elderly males, who smoke or have family history of gastrointestinal cancers. The presenting features are pain in the mid abdomen, significant weight loss and most importantly, jaundice. some can present with fluid or mass in abdomen. Blood tests will show elevated bilirubin and ultrasonography abdomen will define the mass that is growing in the abdomen, which may further require CT scan for confirmation. Now coming to your question, the simplest test available is a tumor marker called CA19-9, which is invariably elevated. From your description, i can see that you are a little depressed and need a little confession that everything is alright. I can most certainly say that you do not need to undergo testing for pancreatic cancer, as you can see you don't have any of the risk factors or clinical features that i wrote. I hope this has cleared your doubt. Please feel free to express your doubts, as we are here to help you out in the best possible way. All the best.
