combination of suspicion and tests
Detailed Answer:
Good day
Noted your concern. Cushings disease is due to excess production of steroids by body or by excess intake of steroid containing medicines. A high index of suspicion is required to diagnose minor degree of cushings where as severe form of disease is very obvious by characteristic body appearance.
Usually there will be weight gain, muscle weakness, purplish stretch marks in abdomen, moon like shape of face, increase in pimples etc. Some may have visual problems.
Once suspected , it is diagnosed by a series of tests. There are 3 types of tests. 1) screening tests b) confirmation tests c) Scans
Screening tests are either 24 hour urine free cortisol estimation , midnight salivary cortisol, overnight dexamethasone suppression tests.
We do screenings tests twice. Later a Confirmation test is done.

Detailed Answer:
Treatment is based on the cause. In Cushings syndrome we try to find out where the lesion is.
When the lesion is localised, the best treatment is surgery. When surgery is not possible, or when lesion can not be localised, then certain drugs can be used.
