Question: Hi, My Son is 10 months old today. He is not eating properly since last 5 days and gets crancky. He drinks only bottle milk in substitute of food. We tried to give different combination of food, whatever he likes. He doesn't eat it as well. He goes to potty 4 to 5 times a day. He is absolutely fine only doens't take food properly. Request your kind guidance please.

Brief Answer: 4 to 5 times stool per day normal Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Dear Mr XXXXXXX The best guide to adequacy of feeds are 1. Weight gain as per expected growth charts 2. Sleeps for at least 2 hours after feeds. Using bottle feeding is not good. As it's difficult to maintain hygeine of the bottles and habit of bottle feeding is difficult to break. It will be preferable to use home based foods and use wati and spoon for feeding in place of bottle. It's quite common for babies to pass stools 4 to 5 times . They usually pass stools after every gm feeds due to gastro-colic reflex. The child should be three times its birth weight by 1 year if age and should be able to eat everything what is normally consumed by adults (off course it should be less spicy and be softer). Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you. Take care Best Regards Dr Deepak Kishore MBBS, MS, MCH Consultant Pediatric Surgeon
