How To Improve Blood Sugar Level?
Question: I am a 73 yr old female with type 2 diabetes. Normally well controlled with medication. Went out to dinner last night and before bed my blood sugar was 270. I took additional glyburide. When I got up this morning my blood sugar was 207. I had 2 eggs, 2bacon, and one piece of rye toast for breakfast. 3 hrs later my blood sugar was 290. 6 hrs after breakfast I was starving and had a bowl of cheerios. It is now 2 1/2 hrs later and my blood sugar is 330. I have NEVER had blood sugar so high (usually between 130-180). I am concerned - what can I do to get it lowered?
Brief Answer:
no need to be worried.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to HCM.
Ok, 330 is high blood sugar but if temporary then this is not something critical and this is probably response to fats and sugar that you ve eaten today. There is no need to be worried since this will not cause any serious difficulties. Only long term high sugar may have consequances. Now, you should take Glyburide again, and have small low sugar meal, drink plenty of fluids to promote urination and repeat sugar measuring in 3-4 hours. If this is under 280 then this is fine,if this remains more than 300 or you have symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness then you should see doctor earlier. Wish you good health. Regards
