Question: hi doctor. i am 20 years old girl. i have 165 cm height but only 49 kg weight. to overcome my underweight i started eating more. i took ayurvedic medicines . but it didn't work. i didn't even increse by 1 kg. it was so disappointing. i am so skinny. i want to increase my weight.(my mom is fat but my father is normal in weight. my grantmother is so skinny). my body curves are so poor and my hair is so weak. i treid to eat proteins and all but it never seemed worked on me.. can you suggest solutions for my problem?

Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing to HCM Body weight of a person depend upon many things like genetics,diet,lifestyle etc. You can try natural methods. It is good that you are so concerned about your fitness. If you want to increase your body mass and increase your fitness then you should give more stress to your diet and physical activity. You should eat Yogurt,raw paneer,drink hot milk bedtime,drink lots of water, eat fruits and salads,eat little salad before lunch and Dinner. Dip handful of whole grains (Black grams, peas, peanuts, pulses) in cup of water overnight and eat in morning. Eat more of vegetarian food,have 5 time meals rather.Eat yogurt,curd in morning and evening. Drink 1 cup of green tea empty stomach. Take breakfast of cereals,milk and egg with bread. In lunch you can have beans on bread,1 plate dal rice or 2-3 breads with baked/ boiled vegetables Have light dinner,eat some salad and u can have 2-3 breads and with gravy, pulses or pasta. Drink plain hot milk with only little sugar or green tea bed time. Avoid soda/aerated drinks,chicken,cheese,pizzas and junk food. Avoid rice at night. You can look for alternates like fish,crab, prawns,Soya,Mushrooms etc. You should be active in your daily activity and go for walking.You should also join Gym. Hope I have answered your question. i am astaying in hostel for studying. yogurt is available only at night. is there any difference in eating chapathi and rice in terms of nutrional value? can i eat egg everyday? can you suggest any other method for eating whole grains because i do not like eating it without cooking.

You can also take single egg every day.It has 100 % nutritional value and avoid rice at night. i would like to grow my hair long. my hair has splitted ends and it is very weak. i had thick hair when i was in my early teenage, then hair fall begun. after that it never got thick. even my hair length is too short. i like long hair. what should i do?

Detailed Answer: Hello XXXX Thanks for writing back Reasons for hair fall should be searched.It may be due to many reasons like dandruff,altered thyroid profile etc. You should regularly cut the lower ends of hairs because hairs with splitted ends are slow growers and tends to fall early. If you have dandruff then you can use medicated shampoo like selenium sulphide. You also need to check your thyroid profile.If it is altered then it should be corrected.
