How To Interpret Recent Findings From Cardiac Testing?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Aug 2024
Question: I’m hoping for some information on how to interpret recent findings from cardiac testing. I had an echocardiogram and stress test performed after I visited a cardiologist complaining of occasional tachycardia. The stress test results seem normal, except for occasional PVCs. The echocardiogram, however, indicates mild aortic valve, tricuspid valve, and mitral valve regurgitation, and mildly thickened leaflets on the tricuspid and mitral valves. Are these common findings? What can I expect my doctor to do with this information? Is this a progressive disease that will get worse? I don’t have any noticeable symptoms, apart from the occasional tachycardia (~120 BPM) that my watch alerts me to.

I’ve attached screenshots of testing results.

I would explain as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I reviewed carefully your cardiac ultrasound report and would explain that these finding are not concerning and they are common findings in healthy persons.

Your doctor would advise you to follow up every 1-2 years with cardiac ultrasound, maintain a normal blood pressure and normal blood lipid profile and follow a healthy lifestyle (healthy diet, regular physical activity, no smoking, no alcohol).

These findings are not expected to deteriorate, except if it is present an underlying cardiomyopathy.

If you have any other comorbidities like a rheumatological disorder, diabetes, etc., I would recommend follow up more frequently and perform a cardiac MRI.

Possible alarm signs would be : shortness of breath, dizziness, palpitations or syncope.

Hope you will find this information helpful!

I would be glad to assist you again whenever you need!

Kind regards,
