How To Lower BP Which Is High Always Around 170/90?

Question: this query is regarding my dad, his BP is high always high around 170/90, he take 5mg bp medicine daily from past 5 years. he is very active does cycling walking and household work daily.

but he has tobacco and alcohol daily.

recently he is getting swollen lips , local doctor said it is due to allergy.

my question: is this BP is alright when he is taking his medicine daily?

170 systolic bp is quite high.
It should be below 150 mm hg.
Diastolic is good enough.
Need to add another medication to control blood pressure.

my dad went to check up today, his bp was around 190/95 after having his medicine.
ECG was normal
doctor also said there is light sugar.

doctor gave following medicine

1) amlodipine and telmisartan 5mg tablet
2) metatime 500
3) pantoprazole tablet

and asked us to come back after one month.

just wanted second opinion from ur side

Hi,
I think amlodipine 5 plus telmisartan 40 would not be sufficient enough to control blood pressure.
Need to add third medication like hydrochlorothiazide after 72 hours, if systolic blood pressure remains more than 150 mmhg after 72 hours.
