Question: Hi. I am a 31 yo female. My question is, I don't enjoy anything. I dunno if it's depression bc I am not sad or anything. It is just like this "going out with friends, they bore me"," go to the movies" meh! "Enjoy a tv show or TV movie" meh, "read a book" don't feel like it, "traveling" don't have the will, "going to gym/piano/singing lessons (I already paid for) I dunno feel like it either. I like my job but it doesn't fulfill me. Nothing excites me or fulfills me. Can you pls tell me what do I have and how to solve it?

Hello, and thanks for your question.

What you are describing actually does sound like clinical depression. Depression isn't really sadness per se -- it's really more a feeling a lack of vitality, or "anhedonia." I recommend you consult with a psychiatrist to consider starting an antidepressant medication, which I would expect would help you feel better and more engaged with life.

Hi! Thanks for your reply!! Wow NYC is my favorite place in the world
But shouldn't find the cause of my depression be more important than taking antidepressants? And a better way to fix it? Because if you'll see me it seems like my life is quite good, but still is not enough, and I just don't know why

Detailed Answer:
Depression is a biological illness. It needs medical treatment to help you feel better. Often depression doesn't have a clear cause -- it's just something that happens in the brain that needs treatment. You can of course always explore possible causes in psychotherapy, but I would first treat the depression with an antidepressant medication such as sertraline or escitalopram.
