Brief Answer:
You should take iPILL

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Ideally you are supposed to use condoms during pill free period.

There is a slight possibility of you getting pregnant.

You should take iPILL ( emergency contraceptive pill) within 3 days ie by 6 th XXXXXXX end to prevent pregnancy.

thank you for the reply. As I live in the UAE the after day pills (ecp) are not sold here as abortion is considered to be illegal. I have checked with the pharmacies and nothing as such is available. please let me know what to do? should I go to the hospital?

Yes you need to go to the hospital if the pill is not available freely.

The gynecologists there will be able to arrange it.

Answered by Dr. Som Biswas (21 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Yes go in as soon as possible.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX

Yes go in as soon as possible.

Only 1 tablet of ECP is required.

If they do not have iPILL any ECP will do.

NO gynera should be started only from XXXXXXX 14th.

Chances of pregnancy after ECP if taken within 3 days of unprotected sex is NIL.

thanks unfortunately they wont give the pill or do the tube...my husband consulted the dr and sent me this: other option is to take at least 100 microgram ofethinyl estradiol and a progesterone. Traditional birth control pills contain ethinyl estradiol or an estrogen along with a progesterone. One table has approximately 20 -30 microgram of estradiol depending upon the brand. So give her 4 tablets [ if they contain 30 microgram each] or 5 tablets [ if they contain 20 microgram each of ethinyl estradiol] of birth control pills. The dose is to be repeated after 12 hours. Also please remember to take the active pills as some packs contain active pills and 4-7 dummy or sugar pills. The sugar pills will not work. So she will need 2 doses. The first dose must be taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex and the second dose is taken 12 hours after the first dose. However this regimen is associated with side effects like nausea and vomiting. So please ask her to take this after meals and if possible give her a drug to control nausea like domperidone or ondansetron. If there is vomiting within 2 hours of taking the tablets then efficacy is not certain. The pills may also cause irregular period or delayed period. The pills cannot be used if there is active liver or kidney disease or heart disease. If this is not available then other option is to use low dose mifepristone within 72 hours.

Brief Answer:
You can take them at your own risk.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX

Well these are alternate options which might or might not work all the time.

These are NOT standard treatment and have side effects.

I will not be able to recommend it to you due to patient safety.

You can take them at your own risk.

Brief Answer:
You have to take the ECP from somewhere

Detailed Answer:
Dear,

The chance of pregnancy is high because you had sex around the time when you ovulate.

You have to take the ECP from somewhere. Arrange it from some other country.

There is no other way.

The other options which your doctor told your husband can be tried but with due risk.
