How To Regain Proper Urine Flow In A Person With Enlarged Prostate?
Question: My father has an enlarged prostate, and has had a foley catheter in for several months. he wants it out (90 years old) so the nurse that comes to the house removed it. what can we do to encourage his bladder to void? (nurses didn't have a clue) last time they took out the cateter he wasn't able to void. Id like to make sure we are doing everything possible to see if he can go.
Brief Answer:
TURP procedure should be considered.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for the query.
Flomax and Finasteride are the best you can do for him at home. If this medicines do not work, either he will have catheter or TURP procedure.
TURP transurethral resection of the prostate - is a surgical procedure where through urethra a part of prostate is removed. This allows to regain proper urine flow. It can be done with local anesthesia. If he does not have any serious heart problems, he should go through this procedure without any problems.
Please consult urologist and discuss such possibility.
Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
