How To Rule Out Bone Cancer?

default
Posted on Tue, 16 Feb 2016
Question: Roughly 3 months ago I was running my hand down my leg and noticed an indent on the inside portion of my shin that is about 2 inches long. There is no pain associated with it, no swelling, no discoloration, but it felt weird and concerned me. I walk about 5 miles daily and am a 6'1 245 30 year old.

It has not healed in 3 months. It isn't the result of any recent trauma. At age 16, I got hit with a baseball in the same spot and had to go to the ER for a large hematoma. I never noticed it but perhaps I hadn't checked.

My main concern when looking on the Internet is that bone cancer sometimes comes up when looking at what a dent in the shin might indicate.

Thanks a lot for your reply

Brief Answer:
It's not cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Don't worry it's not bone cancer else it would have spread very fast.
Sometimes after injury bone takes a different shape and such indentations are formed.
The bone remains strong but indentations are felt.
Just get an x ray done.
This will confirm the diagnosis.
There is nothing to worry.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.

Hello
Yes cancers change shape rapidly.
The area would have been swollen.
You might have developed fever and weakness if it was a bone cancer.
Just relax. You are safe.
