Brief Answer:
I have explained the options.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
I am extremely surprised at the reply. Medicines for
medical abortion are freely available. The only issue is that they need a prescription by a registered medical practitioner and a facility where a surgical procedure may be performed.
The difference between medical and surgical procedure is that the surgical procedure will subject her to
anesthesia and she may need admission in a hospital for a day. The complications are minimal in skilled hands. In skilled hands it is safe. So please choose a person with good surgical skills.
The advantage of medical procedure is that there is no need for admission or anesthesia. In a few cases it causes excessive bleeding and
incomplete abortion. Then ultimately a surgical procedure may be needed in 0.5-3% cases.
So there is no harm in going for either the only issue is the sooner the better. Also if you do want a medical abortion you may try some other doctor. Choose a place that is a government registered
MTP [ medical termination of pregnancy] center. Means that it is approved by the government to perform the procedure. Many a times the places are not registered and hence they refrain from prescribing abortion tablets.
So please do not be confused. Go for the one that you think will be convenient.
1. If she can tolerate a bit of pain and cramping [ seen with tablets] and does not want an admission and anesthesia then search for another doctor that will provide a prescription of tablets.
2. If she feels that she does not want the pain and also the small risk of incomplete procedure, go for a surgical one.
Another thing is that you can combine the D and C with a
tubal ligation surgery [ tubectomy or female sterlisation surgery] in the same setting or if desired a copper T [ name : multiload] can be inserted at the same time. This will ensure ongoing
contraception and prevent any future issues. Even
contraceptive injections can be taken at the same time for contraception. So also discuss these issues with your doctor and then make a choice.
The D and C is a routine surgery and so there is no need to be scared of it. The blood tests are a routine and are done as a part of pre surgical screen. There is nothing special about them. They are just to safeguard the patient against any problems with anesthesia.
Please let me know if you need any further help as I am here.
I wish I was there and would have solved the issue.
Thanks for the query and I wish that this will get sorted and you will meet the correct person.
