How To Wean Off Of Fentanyl Patch?
Question: To go from 50mg Fetynol patch to 37 mg patch in order to wean how long should I be on the lower dose then what?
Brief Answer:
taper slowly
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I think you mean Fentanyl patch for pain which you want to wean.
You have rightly reduced the dose to 37.5 MCG patch. After one week reduce it to 25mcg.
After one week of that you halve that dose for next one week and then stop safely.
If the pain troubles you then start simpler medicines like tramadol+paracetamol combination on as required basis.
I hope the advise will be helpful for you.

The pain is uncontrollable so opiates are not the answer. I have no idea how the dr will trearmt pain, but I do not want opiated and have haas to plead w/them to start the weaning. You verify what dr said, but little faith in dr. Thanks so much.
Brief Answer:
please give details of the pain

I wish I knew. I had 24" of colon removed with dr attaching to side of rectum with mesh strips. Prior to surgery, I didn't have any issues with going to the bathroom but, left hospital with infection resulting in hernia repair which abuts to stomach. I get terrible abdominal cramping and pain/pressure in rectum. Would like to know the strips of mesh - attached to side of rectum - would they attach inside abdomen which is where a lot of the pain is. The worst pain is rectum connection. This isn't very clear as I'm in so much pain, it's hard to think, but, doctors don't connect with each other and I was wrong not to get a second opinion, but, mesh can't be removed and I will never be able to take back a mistake like this. My life was jerked away from me and I don't get it.
Brief Answer:
consult a local clinician for prescription
Detailed Answer:
Hi Skaaland,
Welcome back.
Thanks for giving useful details.
The mesh may have formed bands with surrounding gut which can be detected by CT Scan study and can be relieved by endoscopic surgery without opening abdomen fully.
I would advise you to switch your opioid drug Fentanyl into either tramadol+paracetamol low dose combination or into Pregabalin.
These two are greatly safe drugs still very effective.
