How To Wean Off Of Hydrocortisone Acetate?
Question: i have been taking Hydrocortisone aceate 25 mg suppositories for almost 2years . 1 every
night for internal hemerroids bleeding. I have been advised that I should not take them anymore because they weaken tissue. And maybe be doing more harm then good. How do i stop.Can I just stop cold turkey or do I have to ween off slowly.,

If I were your doctor, I would not advise you for Hydrocortisone acetate suppositories for such a long time for bleeding hemorrhoids. Rather I would advise you to go for a definitive treatment for hemorrhoids, which are safe and good enough in competent hands, unless there was any medical contraindication for undergoing such surgery. You could stop the suppository in a phased manner with advice from the doctor who advised you for this treatment after a proper clinical examination.
Apart from the above, I would also advise you to add sufficient roughage with enough liquids in your diet. This would help you avoid constipation, which is the main causative factor on formation of hemorrhoids.
You could continue all the present treatment for other conditions as mentioned by you in your history.

What would be a good phased manner if I have been taking 1/2 suppository daily?
i have low blood platelets and take Nplate to keep Platelets up. I been taking Hem Clear capsels three times daily for the minor bleeding. also using Hem Cream. They don't want to do surgery because of the low Platelet count and because of the radiation treatments at this time. I think I will start out taking the Hydroctsone every other day. then phase out. My radiation oncolgist has started me taking 10,000 iu of vitiumn A daily for the next 90 days.

You could add sitz bath (sitting in a tub with XXXXXXX warm water) two times a day for relieving any inflammation associated with your hemorrhoids. I talked to one of my Drs. and She said that Hem cream and Hemclear are OK to continue. Your sujestion for weening off suppositories also is sound advise. Thank You very much.
