Brief Answer: You need to take the medicines for a few months Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query. I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through. The condition that you are having is basically panic attacks. This is a disorder of anxiety and occurs cause of imbalance of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. especially serotonin, nor adrenaline, and dopamine to some extent. Medicines are the best options to take care of these symptoms. Paroxetine is the the most popular medicine and my drug of choice and its good that you are already on it. I generally prescribe my patients 12.5 mg per day at night which takes care of anxiety symptoms. Your psychiatrist has prescribed you escitalopram as well. You can get the escitalopram (rexipra) withdrawn at 5mg abruptly and you should have no problem. But regarding paroxetine, it would be better if you continue the medicines for a few months as this is the time it would take to treat your panic disorder and prevent further panics from coming to you. Hope I am able to answer your concerns. If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you. If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback. Sir I have already stopped taking paxil 8 days ago. And what I had was just a panic attack after a long weekend of binge drinking. I am also seeking CBT for whatever anxiety issues I have. Now for the last 7 days I have been taking rexipra 5mg. Will I be fine if I stop taking rexipra?

Brief Answer: You should continue rexipra Detailed Answer: Hello No, you should not stop rexipra. You may continue taking it for anxiety disorder for 6-8 months and believe me, its one of the safest drug for anxiety. Also continue your CBT. Kind regards Dr. Srikanth Reddy MD
