Brief Answer:
Gradual tapering over a period of 8 weeks...
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
I understand that you have been taking
Deanxit for the last 1 year, for your
anxiety /
depression problems and that you would like to come off the medication now.
Now, Deanxit is actually a fixed-dose combination medication which contains two drugs:
Flupentixol 0.5 mg, and
Melitracen 10 mg
Though this medication is typically not considered addictive, yet many patients have reported discontinuation symptoms if the medication is stopped abruptly. Moreover, since you have been taking the medication for a long time, I would suggest that you taper down the medication gradually over a period of about 8 weeks. This would avoid any discontinuation symptoms or 'rebound anxiety'. The suggested tapering shedule would be:
1/2 tablet a day for 4 weeks, followed by
1/4 tablet a day for the next 4 weeks, and then stop.
It is important that you learn and practice some
relaxation techniques like deep breathing,
yoga,
meditation, etc. to ensure that you can counter any mild anxiety symptoms that may emerge while reducing the medication.
It is also important to follow proper 'sleep hygiene' so that you can avoid or tackle any sleep disturbance that may occur during this process.
Just to let you know, Deanxit has been withdrawn in many countries due to some safety concerns. So, it is a good thing that you have decided to come off this medication.
Wish you all the best.
