How Would The Diagnosis Of White Patches On The Leg Of A 10-year-old Child Be Done To Rule Out Vitiligo?
We have been to beach and my 10 year old daughter played in the beach water for few hours. starting next day, we started seeing 2 patches(light colored) on her leg.
one of the doctor suggested it could be a Pre-Vitiligo.,
Can you please confirm if this is the symptom of Vitiligo (or pre-vitiligo)? if so what steps should we take so that she will not have vitiligo in her life ?
It looks like vitiligo but may be also fungal infection.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I read carefully your question and I saw the photos that you posted.
The light colored patches seem very much like vitiligo. But in order to decide diagnoses, she will need to be followed by a rheumathologist and do some tests.
I think that meanwhile you wait for the appointment of a specialist, you rule out a possible fungal infection. This is another very possible option of diagnoses, because vitiligo is it very uncommon to appear so fast. Apply Ketoconazole 2% locally, twice/day for 1-2 weeks. If improved, then it is not vitiligo.
Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if you need more clarifications.

Do you think this can also cause because of Vitmain D deficiency ?
Does taking the oral multi-vitamin reduce the chances of spreading, if it is the Vitiligo ?
Thanks

Vit D is not associated with Vitiligo and also does not cause those lesions
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Vit D deficiency does not cause skin lesions like that but gives more bone development problems.
If it is the vitiligo, there are several therapies that can be used, like local creams, photo therapy, oral steroids, ect. But again, the local rheumathologist will follow you step by step once the diagnoses is decided.
