Would estazolam affect my baby. In general, what' s the suggestion for a women who wants to be pregnant when taking sleeping pills? Before pregnancy, how long should she stopped the benzodiazepine sleeping pills?
Brief Answer:
benzodiazepine and pregnancy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
The mean elimination half-life of estazolam is from 10 to 24 hours. Radiolabel mass balance studies indicate that the main route of excretion is via the kidneys. After 5 days, 87% of the administered radioactivity was excreted in human urine. ( this is from literature). So if you have stopped it on the ovulation day then chances of ovum being affected remains low as it doesn't affect the ovum quality. Moreover , if the ovum would have been defective , then you wouldn't have got pregnant at all and not crossed 8 weeks.
As the excretion is complete within 24 hrs, so you are safe.
Moreover there are various check points during antenatal period like NT SCAN, TRIPLE MARKER AND QUADRUPLE SCREEN and ANOMALY SCAN which can detect foetal anomalies if any.
So if the foetus has a heart beat and growing well then unlikely that your foetus would have been affected by estazolam.
But avoid its use during pregnancy completely as its a category X drug in pregnancy.
I hope this helps,
wishing you good health,
Regards
