Question: I am 40 years old, my calcium is reading 10.5 and my vitamin d is low. They prescribed me Vitamin D, which I am reading is dangerous in this circumstance. Wouldn't my results suggest i have a parathyroid tumor. I addressed this with them and they are saying that calcium level is normal. I explained to them that at my age it isn't within normal range

Brief Answer:
Check parathyroid hormone first before taking vitamin D.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

You are having calcium levels at the upper limit of normal range.
Having low vitamin D levels and elevated calcium levels may be an indicator of parathyroid gland issues.
If you have low vitamin D then the calcium levels should be low.
You may need to check parathyroid hormone levels and do an ultrasound of thyroid, parathyroid before taking vitamin D.
Taking Vitamin D may elevate the calcium levels even more.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
