Question: Hello, I am 43 an having heavy periods to the point that my folic acid is low. I have clotting now at day 5 of my period, compared to normally heavy at day 2 or 3. I've had an endometrial biopsy. Is there a concern for cancer here? I don't want to be on birth control..can I live like this, or am I missing something? What can I do naturally to make less of a clotting, heavy period that has been going on for 3 years?

Brief Answer:
Cause of bleeding needs to be detected.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your health concerns ,
The heavy bleeding that you are having can be due to -
-Female hormone imbalance,
-Uterine fibroids,
-Disorders of the uterine lining,
-Uterine,ovarian or cervical cancer,
-Hypothyroidism,
-Endometrial hyperplasia,
-Dysfunctional uterine bleeding, to name a few.
Endometrial biopsy will help in ruling out endometrial cancer. You need proper investigations to find out the exact cause of such bleeding.
To decrease the bleeding you can have Mirena IUD inserted or go for endometrial ablation after detailed investigations under the guidance of your gynecologist. Natural methods are not likely to reduce the heavy clotting.

Regards.

I get that the cause of bleeding needs to be figured out, but how does that happen? I’ve been to the gyn several times concerning this and it is never “figured out”. What would be the method to “figure out” the cause of bleeding?

Brief Answer:
You need to have investigations for that.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
To find out the cause of bleeding, you need to have detailed investigations.
You should go for blood profile, ultrasonography, thyroid profile, endometrial biopsy, hormonal profile or sometimes you required D&C.
If all the reports are normal then a hormonal disturbance or DUB is likely.
Hope my answer is helpful.
