Question: I am 62yoa. I was having a lot of headache. I was told that I have moderate chronic ischemic disease. My blood pressure is good, usually 117-130 over 78-82. I am not diabetic. I have been taken medication for about 6 years for high cholesterol. It is usually around 175-180. I have a very bad sleep disorder. I sleep with a clap. How should this be treated?

Brief Answer:
Improving sleep routine may help you avoid the habit.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to the “Ask a Doctor “ service.

I have read your question.

Breaking down bad sleep habits is a difficult task.

To try to improve falling asleep and getting good sleep, some adjustments should be done.

These include changing the bedtime habits such as developing a sleep routine ( going to bed and awakening nearly the same hour every day, avoiding heavy meals and beverages with caffeine or alcohol in the evening, read or take a bath before sleep, avoiding computer or XXXXXXX use in the evening, etc.).

Using natural compounds that promote good sleep such as melatonin also may help you avoiding the habit.

You can wear also oven gloves to avoid the sound of the clapping until you get used to sleep without it.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Brief Answer:
I would explain as follows.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

Moderate chronic ischemic disease in most cases results from unstable blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, etc.

So, to stop it from progression and to improve it is necessary to control correctly the underlying cause.

Aspirin (usually 100mg/daily) should help as a blood thinner.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
