Question: I am 66 - have good cholesterol (148), triglycerides (80) HDL (64) LDL (68), AIC 5.3, Glucose 91 yet when I do the simplest chores I get short of breath and start sweating beyond belief. I flush and turn very red. Just doing chores like cleaning the kitchen, sweeping, and washing the floor (with a mop and bucket). I do have asthma(diagnosed in 1969), but don't believe that is it. I also have had a thyroidectomy (2014) and hysterectomy (2015). I have primary lymphedema (diagnosed in 2019). I have been to a cardiologist who says my heart is quite strong. Primary doctor is reluctant to make a referral unless he can determine who I should see.

Brief Answer:
Shortness of breath may be caused by heart or lung issues.

Detailed Answer:
Hi....
Welcome to "Ask a Doctor" service.
I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query/Blood values and here is my opinion.

A common cause of breathlessness which is frequently missed is Anemia.
Due to decreased Hemoglobin, there is insufficient transport of oxygen which causes shortness of breath.
Kindly share your Hemoglobin and blood count reports.

As you have been through a cardiac evaluation, kindly share your ECG and ECHO reports.
Cardiologist must have ruled out a heart failure.

Shortness of breath may be caused by heart or lung issues.
As you are asthmatic so an acute exacerbation can not be ruled out.
A super added infection(Pneumonia) can not be ruled out.

Kindly visit a respiratory physician for clinical examination and evaluation.
He may procure your X Ray chest, respiratory function tests and may be High resolution CT Scan.

Hope that I have answered your query.

Stay healthy and stay blessed.
Regards.

I looked at my report. My WBC is 6.2; RBC is 4.78. HemoGlobin is 14.0. Hematocrit is 89.5. There are other numbers, but I don't know if they will help as I don't recognize what they represent. I do see my platelet count is 199.

I do not have a copy of my records from the cardiologist -- only that the Cardiologist said everything was good and I have a "good strong heart".

I do not have a respiratory specialist; but I will look into finding one. I have not seen any specialist concerning my asthma in a number of years -- since I found out what my triggers were and cleared my house of them -- carpet, heavy drapes (dust mites) and cats.

I thank you greatly for your response and your care.

Stay safe and blessings to you,.

Thanks for sharing your blood counts.
They are quite normal.
