Question: I am 71 yr. old male and my blood pressure has increased to hypertension 2 range. I am taking 2 blood pressure medications, but they do not seem to be restoring it to normal range. I have no issues with my thyroid, adrenal gland or kidneys. I have not tested my lymph nodes. Any advice would be welcomed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome on - Ask a Doctor - service!

I understand your concern and would like to explain that there are no ideal anti-hypertensive therapeutic schemes, but instead an appropriate one should be tailored secondary to each patient.

Several combinations could be available to control high blood pressure ranging from maximal daily dose of a single drug therapy to combinations of multiple anti-hypertensives.

In general the majority of patients could control high blood pressure values under a combination therapy.

It is necessary that anti-hypertensive drugs be taken regularly every day and their daily dose should be in the therapeutic range.

Drugs administration should be spaced adequately during the day according to their plasma half life time (period of action).

That's why I would ask you to provide me on the exact medication scheme you are taking (their daily doses and scheduled time of administration).

In addition, it would be necessary to provide me with concrete information about blood pressure values for at least a few day on the above therapy.

The above information would help to give you a some practical tips on how to optimize your therapy and achieve a better treatment result.

Let me know about the above mentioned issues, so I could properly advice you on the matter.

I remain at your disposal for any further discussions.
