Question: I am a 37yr old male and have recently started dating a 25yr female. Last night we were fooling around and sex seemed to be imminent. So, like I do with all partners, I asked her if she is positive for any STDs. She told me that when she was 17 she was diagnosed with cervical dysplasia as a result of a human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. She told me that she had been treated for it with some sort of "booster" shot? and that she never exhibited any outbreaks or issues after her initial treatments. She acted like it wasn't a really big deal but still wanted to use a condom. She said that I didn't have to worry about it because I was a guy. But, I don't want to get anything that would infect someone else in the future. We ended up not having intercourse and instead I fingered her and she gave me oral.

So here are my questions:

Planned Parenthood's website says: "Most genital HPV infections aren’t harmful at all and go away on their own." Does that mean that she likely doesn't have it anymore? Can anyone really no longer have it?

Am I at risk of getting it because I fingered her?

Should I not give her oral sex?

Will it ever be ok to not use a condom?

Most genital HPV infections are caused by non carcinogenic types 6, 11. Most of those infected are clear of the infection by 2 years. However, few few genital HPV is caused by carcinogenic types 16, 18 and a small percentage of these individuals have persistent infection and risk of cervical carcinoma. The booster shot she mentioned is of the vaccine against HPV that prevents infection with carcinogenic HPV types. Genital HPV infects only genital and oral mucosa. It won't infect the finger. Oral sex can lead to HPV infection of oral cavity if she has the virus. A condom should always be used regularly to reduce the risk of transmission of STDs as STDs may not be obvious or visible.

Is it possible for her to no longer have HPV virus if she hasn't had any issues in 8 years?

Can the type of HPV that causes cervical dysplasia also cause throat cancer in men that give oral sex?
