Brief Answer:
Not likely with treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

Bacterial vaginosis is caused by a complex change in vaginal bacterial flora,Infection with G vaginalis is thought to trigger a cascade of changes in vaginal flora that leads to Bacterial vaginosis.

This is commonly present in sexually active female, hormonal and age also having effects on infection.
Up to 50% of women will have a recurrence of BV within 12 months of initial treatment.

You can take a combination of oral and vaginal antibiotic, treatment of sex partner and use of condoms are useful in reduce the rate of recurrence.

Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

If continued burning is not likely even though it is in a milder form does that mean that the antibiotics were ineffective? What else could be the cause, could it be something serious ( I know it is not an STD I have not be sexually active in two years) My gyno office is not seeing patients who are not pregnant until earliest next month (limited access due to coronavirus) I have though had an online tele appointment about a month ago where antibiotics were prescribed

Brief Answer:
Can be due to dryness.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The continued burning can be caused by associated vaginal dryness and hormonal changes. Using regular moisturiser can help. You can also get a vaginal swab culture done after the treatment to rule out any remnant infection. You can use XXXXXXX butter for keeping the area moisturised and see if it helps.
Hope my answer is helpful.
