I Am A 63 Year Old Female That Has Had

Currently I am in my 7th week of acute bronchitis (at least I think that’s what it is. I have had 2 chest X-rays that are cleat and blood work that is stellar. Also,2 course of steroids, 1 zpack and Albuterol inhaler. I feel the best when I’m layong down and in the morning. Then the productive cough kicks in.
The sputum is now clea ,not a yellow or green tinge anymore
I am concerned at the extent of this illness. I am currently on 200 mg of doxycycline prescribed by ER doc last Thursday. Which is reeking havoc with my stomach. Any assistance/ideas would be welcomed. There is also a gurgling/ crackly bubbly sound in my throat.
Get done PFT.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I think your bronchitis is not controlled because you are not taking proper treatment.
So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.
You will need long acting inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone).
These are better than albuterol which is short acting beta 2 agonist (SABA).
Along with inhaled treatment, you should also take N acetyl cystine (NAC) tablet.
This is also beneficial in bronchitis.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
