Question: I am a 71 YO male, weigh 207 and stand 5'11. I am type II diabetic and take metformin, 500 mg twice a day. I also take Zetia for lipids. I am oon amlodipine besylate for blood pessure. I am experiencing ED and have taken Cialis in the past. As time has gone by, I have increased the dose from a single 20 mg to two. I am still not getting the results that I expect. This is a recent development and may coincide with the amlodipine besylate which was changed about 2 months back. Any thoughts? Should I go to Viagra or Levitra?

Brief Answer:
First drug to change: Amlodipine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I have gone through your query and understood your concern.Tadalafil is used to treat male sexual function problems like erectile dysfunction-ED.In diabetics these problems are common because of Diabetic autonomic neuropathy. It is true that some antihypertensive drugs known as calcium channel blockers,( Amlodipine, Diltiazem, or Verapamil)can rarely cause erectile dysfunction.

So,if you think thast your problem coincide with starting amlodipine, tha probably this drug isn the culpit. In this cases, the first think to do is to to talk with your cardiologiost if he can change amlodipine with another class of antihypertensice drugs.(if this is possible) If the ED persist even after discontinuing Amlodipine that i suggest to talk with your treating for changing Cialis to Viagra(sindenafil) or Levitra(vardenafil)

Hope this is helpful.
Let me know if i can assist you further.
Thanks.

Would it be OK to try Cialis or Levitra without changing the Amlodipine?

Brief Answer:
Yes,is can be Ok.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

If the culpit of your problem is Amlodipine, the right way to solve the problem is to discuntinue this drug.Anyway,as i said in our last discussion, the calcium blockers drugs can cause erectile disfunction very rarely.

For this reason,In my opinion ,it is OK if you Change your Cialis with another PDE5 inhibitors such as sildenafil (Viagra) or vardenafil (Levitra). Anyway it is better to discuss this therapy with your treating.

Thanks.
