I Am A 74 Year Old XXXXXXX XXXXXXX Male. I
Question: I am a 74 year old XXXXXXX XXXXXXX male. I had a coronary bypass x4 graphs 31 years ago and a heart attack & stent 2 years ago. I previously was taking Metoprolol 25mg 1x daily in addition to HCTZ 50/ Triamterene 75mg tablet ( 1/2 tablet daily) and they were controlling my blood pressure well. My pancreas became inflamed as a result of my gallbladder so Dr.'s took me off HCTZ and also took me off Metoprolol due to pulse in 40's range. I'm presently taking Lisinopril 40mg 1x daily but is insufficient to control my blood pressure. Lisinopril causes dizziness & weakness in my legs and body. I wish to get off the Lisinopril. So, knowing my history what meds would you recommend? I have not yet related to my renal doctor my desire to get off Lisinopril. My doctor gave me a choice of the following meds which was in addition to Lisinopril before I experienced the above side affects with Lisinopril. Which of the following meds would be safest with the least side affects to add...EPLERENONE, AMILORIDE, TRIAMTERENE, BUMETENIDE, or FUROSEMIDE?

Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on Ask a Doctor service!
I read carefully your question and would recommend adding a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine, lercanidipine) to your actual therapy in order to help control your blood pressure values.
Considering the fact that you do not tolerate well lisinopril, I would recommend switching to an ARB like ( telmisartan, olmesartan, etc.), which are better tolerated.
You should discuss with your doctor on the above treatment options.
If you have any other questions feel free to ask me again!
Kind regards,
