Question: I am a multiple myeloma patient and had autologous stem cell transplant 4 months ago. My latest tests shows normal readings and total remission. However, 5 weeks ago after a bit intense workout I started having pain at my sternum tender to touch which spread to left ribs and back. I took NSAID and Muscle relaxant it became better but now a week a go I developed
Same same pain but to right side of sternum spreads to ribs and back. I have x -ray, CT scan and PET-CT all normal and didn’t show any up normal readings. So what could this be, how to treat it and is it normal that it is 5 weeks so far and still suffering?

Brief Answer:
Can be muscle spasm.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain in the sternum and to the ribs and back can be due to a muscle spasm and low levels of vitamin D3. If all the tests are normal then there is no need to worry. Taking mild pain killers, hot compress and application of local analgesic gel will help. You can also get an oral muscle relaxant prescribed from your physician in case the pain is persistent.
I hope this answers your query.

Brief Answer:
Can be costochondritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
This can be due to costochondritis also. An inflammation can take weeks to heal. A muscle spasm is less likely to persist for 5 weeks.
Hope my answer is helpful.
