I Am A School Adminsitrtor, While Checking A Student’s School

Question: I am a school adminsitrtor, while checking a student’s school bag today I sliced my finger on a razor blade and needed stitches. I went to an urgent care center where I was given stitches. I’ve come to find out that the student may have been using the blade to cut with. Do i need to worry about hepatitis? I already had my tetanus shot, but I’m not sure if and when I got a hepatitis shot. At this point what should I do? I am going to see my primary doctor tomorrow. Do I need to go back to an emergency room and get a shot? This all happened at 8am this morning.

Brief Answer:
Very less chances of Hepatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Razors are likely to spread Hepatitis Virus but the risk is low. It would have been possible if there was blood on the razor. or more commonly from contaminated blood transfusion with HCV or HBV.

A vaccine against HCV is not available. HBV can also spread from razors.
HBV vaccine maybe taken within 24 hour period of exposure.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.
