Question: I am asking for our 41-year-old daughter. She has had mono symptoms for almost a month. The fever is gone, but she still has a very raw throat and has not eaten much for three weeks. She's under a doctor's care but throat doesn't get better. All mono test come back negative. Amoxicillin seemed to make it worse. Her throat is swollen and it is too painful to eat. Should we take her to the ER?

Brief Answer:
Please consult an Ent surgeon if the throat is swollen and if she is unable to take food

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Please consult an Ent surgeon if the throat is swollen and if she is not able to take food.

Continue betadine gargle. You can send a throat swab culture and sensitivity. Also, make sure she doesn't have any Candidiasis or anything other bacterial and fungal infection. Let her drink plenty of water preferably warm. You can continue the anti-allergic tablet if the doctor prescribes you.

Get well soon.
Please follow-up if you have any queries.
