I Am Due For A Prostate Biopsy Tomorrow. I Was

Question: I am due for a prostate biopsy tomorrow. I was instructed to take antibiotic for two days before that, meaning starting on Saturday.

Unfortunately, for complicated reasons, I could not take my antibiotics on Saturday. I only started now on Sunday 9am. My biopsy is on Monday 2pm.

The biopsy isalready done in a sort of urgency, so I can't really afford to postpone it.

I am thinking about taking a double dose today and then again some on Monday to compensate for Saturday. There are 12 hours before 21h today. So this means one tablet every 3 hours. Plus some more on Monday...

What do you think, would it work? Would it be more or less equivalent of taking them for two days as I was instructed? Or should I on the contrary not proceed with the biopsy because I failed to take my antibiotics for two days as instructed and that would make it too risky? (But then this would mean a possibly long delay before the next available spot for biopsy, which I can't really afford.) Which is best to do?

Brief Answer:
It is OK with the biopsy

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

I would say carry on with the examination Monday. As you mention, you can decrease the interval between the next doses so that the cumulative dose is the same as if you did the full course. Make sure to tell the urologist so that you can get prophylactic antibiotics after the procedure also.

Thanks Anders,

I can tell you the reason I could not take it on Saturday because you know of my case as we talked before about it. I didn't take it on Saturday because I decided already that this biopsy was premature indeed and that I will postpone it for a month, then with another PSA at mid term, see if I wait for the MIR in XXXXXXX However, I happen to do another PSA last week to confirm the last reading, and I received the results this morning only. I was hoping it will go down to 7+ because I don't have crisis now, but on the contrary it jumped from 8.43 to 9.48 in less than a month, so this alarmed me greatly and I decided to use the appointment I have tomorrow because I don't know when I can get another one again and time suddenly expanded with this new development. .

Thanks again for your kind help.

That makes perfect sense

Hi XXXXXXX

I think that makes perfect sense. It is probably nothing, but I completely understand your need for knowing what is going on.

Please let me know how everything goes.
