Question: I am having problems with my blood pressure it keeps flutuating.. in the morning it is fine but during the day it can elevate to around 155/98.. the back of my head gets real tight too.. like a tight grip on my head! I take a 12 mg attenenol and it seems to go down.. sometimes too low..I have degenerative disc disease can this cause the high blood pressure?? What kind of tests should I do to find out what is wrong??? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Could indicate an underlying illness

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma’am, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but fluctuations of blood pressure could indicate an underlying illness. I would recommend that you get a blood test for thyroid hormonal profile including T3, T4, and TSH, a blood test to assess kidney functions including urea and creatinine and a blood test for blood glucose levels both fasting and postprandial. Also, I would recommend that you an ECG along with an echocardiogram to exclude cardiovascular insufficiency. I hope you find this helpful.

I have had some of the tests..my glucose was a little high at 100 but my thyroid was fine.last echo test showed diastolic dysfunction at one..and faster heart rate..would that cause this?? Would stress cause this ?? How about the pain I have been having in my neck due to degenerative disk disease ..any relation? I just had an X-ray on my neck should I get a mri..could a blockage in the neck cause this?? Thanks so much!!! My kidney function was ok as well.. should I retake the tests that was about 2 months ago before I had this blood pressure problem..

Brief Answer:
The other way around

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ma’am, hello again.. Hypertension could be the cause of diastolic dysfunction not the other way around.. Also chronic pain could cause an elevated blood pressure especially if the pain increases during the day.
the test results are unlikely to change in two months time so no need to repeat, but since the blood glucose level was a little high so I would recommend that you get a blood test for the HbA1c level to detect if you are prediabetic..I would also recommend that you keep a record of your blood pressure within the day for a week to be able to asses if you are in need for a regular blood pressure medication on daily bases, preferably in divided doses. I hope you find this helpful
