I Am Having Recurrent Labial Abcesses Since Past One Year

Question: I am having recurrent labial abcesses since past one year that are filled with pus and extremely painful. I got one 3 days back again and did Augmentin course for 3-4days but the abscess still got bigger and painful. A doctor online suggested me Azithromycin while I read thoroughly about it and learned that clindamycin would work best for me. I am taking regular sitz bath and started taking chymoral forte. Please suggest best course for me....that would help the abscess drain itself without a surgery.

Brief Answer:
Drainage of the abscesses might be needed

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.

The labual folds contain glands called Bartholin glands which act as lubricants for the area. Sometimes the opening of these glands gets blocked and the secretions get collected inside. This leads to cyst formqtion and this is rather a harmless process and maintenance of hygiene is primary. However, if you are certain that they are pus filled, taking antibiotics merely will not help everytime as they might need to be drained. This is important. Clindamycin is a better choice than Azithromycin iif they are pushing filled but otherwise Azithromycin is a good choice.

Thank you Sir. Last time the doctor examining me said it's not a bartholyn cyst and just a labial abcess. However that time they had to drain it but the process was extremely painful and traumatic for me. I am concerned that since I get these cysts so frequently...how can I get them drained everytime and go through the pain. Also.the idea of getting incisions on my labia over and over seems frightening. Can't there be a non invasive solution to my problem which is permanent. I am 31 yrs old a& unmarried

Brief Answer:
If it an abscess, it needs to be drained

Detailed Answer:
Sorry for the inadvertent delay in responding.

I understand that the idea is painful but if it is an abscess, it needs to be drained. There is no other way out. The question is not what you would do it it occurs everytime, the question is why would it occur everytime. Tere is possibly some hygiene related issue. Discuss with your gynecologist.
