Gas or diaphragm pain
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for trusting us with your health related questions.
I understand your concern. While there may be various causes to a rib cage sharp pain on both side, the most probable cause is gas. Gas pain can be relieved by lying down and made worse by bending, twisting or turning. I recommend you take an over the counter gas tablet such as gas X, drink plenty of water and take a long walk.
If you had a recent cold and cough, the pain under the rib cage could also be due to diaphragm muscle pain due to constant straining during cough. In such this case. Tylenol or Advil should help relieve the pain.
If the pain continues and you do not experience relief, despite the medication, I would recommend an ultrasound of the abdomen, after consulting with your primary care physician.
I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
